Confirmation 2011

On Saturday 7th May 2011 nine young people from our parish were confirmed by Bishop Frank White at Holy Trinity, Jesmond.  In total there were twenty-eight confirmands from across the Deanery.  The church was full and there was much excitement (and nerves!) during the service.  We were also joined by a pigeon which enjoyed flying backwards and forwards much to everyone's amusement!

The following day, Sunday 8th May, our newly confirmed nine received communion for the first time at the Parish Eucharist at St Nicholas, followed by a party in the Church Hall including a specially made cake iced with their names.

This special and moving weekend, where nine young Christians each confirmed their faith and the promises made on their behalf at their baptism, was the culmination of several weeks of preparation.  Sessions were held weekly looking at all aspects of the Christian story and tradition.  Clergy and candidates alike had great fun!

We hope our photos, comments, quotes and prayers written in some of the sessions will give a flavour of the whole experience of Confirmation 2011!

Do continue to pray for Chloe, Rachel, Jonathan, Sara, Emily, Lucy, Katie, Martha & Rose over the coming months, that the gift of the Holy Spirit will work richly in their hearts and lives and to give thanks for the blessing that they are to us.

For me, being confirmed is the starting point for learning more about being a Christian. It feels important to receive bread and wine at the altar. All nine of us can now be part of the new generation at St nicks! I also loved the lunch and chocolate cake that was prepared for us after First Communion  (Rachel)

It was nerveracking on the day but felt good afterwards!  The lessons were really fun and there was a pigeon in the church - it was funny!  The Bishop was funny and really cool.  It was a good experience.  (Lucy)

It was great.  The lessons were really fun but you learnt lots as well.  We also got refeshments (drinks and biscuits).  It felt good to be confirmed because you could join in with the bread and wine at church (but I don't like the taste of the wine!)  It was really fun and the food was really good!  (Sara)

I was really pleased when I got confirmed because I was desperate to be confirmed ever since I was 9, so it has been a great pleasure, to me, to be confirmed.  It was very exciting and in the lessons you learnt things in a fun way.  (Emily)
