Welcome to Gosforth Parish Church.

Our Church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. - the original "Father Christmas!". My hope and prayer is that we as a Church serve our parish community and all who join us in something of the same way in which St. Nicholas served his people many years ago when he was a Bishop. St. Nicholas was especially concerned for all in need, for those in danger and for children. He also believed that it is right to use money practically for the relief of others - which helped to make him the patron saint of pawnbrokers! We seek to imitate Nicholas in his care for one another and creation, to be welcoming, to give practical service, to build community and to care for others.

Gosforth Parish Church stands on what is probably the oldest church site in Newcastle with evidence suggesting that in Saxon times it may have been the only church in the area. Worship still takes place here every day. The Eucharist (Holy Communion) is at the very centre of our lives together - as it was at the heart of St. Nicholas' spirituality. In the Eucharist we meet with God and are fed by Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. God's love is life-changing - and enables us to share Jesus' love with those we meet. Every day we offer morning and evening prayers in Church.

Our worship style is traditional Anglican using a mix of contemporary and more ancient liturgies and music. We celebrate the Festivals and Seasons of the Church Year with style and enthusiasm and enjoy using English traditions of worship that look back to the days of the great Northumbrian Saints: Aidan, Cuthbert, Hilda, Bede. We have three choirs (Antiphon, Baptistery and Junior) and our choral tradition adds much to our worship.

We welcome people of all traditions, as well as enquirers and seekers after faith, to share our life and worship. Children and young people are welcome here and we have a thriving Junior Church with many young families.

We hope we make everyone feel at home!

Philip
